“Fast Times at Ridgemont High” Bumper Reel
Animation studio OK Motion Club hosts monthly screenings of women-directed films at the historic Plaza Theatre in Atlanta. For pre-screening entertainment, animators are invited to submit bumper reels related to the film using a provided color palette.
It was an absolute joy to create and contribute for their screening of the 80’s cult classic, “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.”

IF YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW
From my previous life working in the Art Department for TV and film, my first thought was to highlight the props, costumes, and picture cars that were critical in developing major characters and their plot lines.
Who would Spicoli be without his checkered vans? What could make stoner culture feel more legendary than a VW with leopard print curtains? These elements were fun nods for fans, and a sneak preview for first-time watchers.
STYLE FRAMES
Using the color palette requested by OK Motion Club, I created initial frames in Illustrator. I used those as a base reference for the frame-by-frame animation, executed in Photoshop. Thanks to Giovanni Scheno for whipping up an incredible 80’s synth track.
ON THE BIG SCREEN
It was such a delight to get to share this work with other “Fast Times” fans at the historic Plaza Theatre, alongside other skilled animators. Thanks to OK Motion Club for creating a community space for movie buffs and local talent to join forces and support women.
